If not for Frank and the Capt'n, this would have been a very nice win for the Mets. But a win is a win, ugly or not.

Pelf has lasted 8 innings or more in 12 games in his career, but never that long with as few as 102 pitches. The last Mets pitcher to complete 8 innings with 102 pitches or fewer: R.A. Dickey on June 22 last season -- he pitched 8 full innings with only 100 pitches. The Mets won that game over the A's when Brad Ziegler hit Justin Turner with a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 13th inning.

He never threw ball 3 for most of the game, and kept the runner at first pretty well when there was one. Nice work for an april start.

Well call me the jinx. Big Pelf paced on DL with elbow swelling.

I think the elbow is just overworked after a big game in april. 25 years ago, it wouldn't have even been news. I also think the DL wouldn't have happened if it were later in the year and the rotation was stronger and could have picked up a missed start.

Maybe it is just me - Pelf has been generally abominable so far this year.

Yep - looking at the small survey size might suggest otherwise...but - seriously...He strikes me as having a wholly different; but equally unsound, mentality as Ollie Perez.

Neither have the mental toughness to be a winner.

I'm hearing a rumor that he's out until 2014. Please tell me this is an exaggeration.

It's true that Pelf on the mound often looks like he'd be happier elsewhere. But sometimes that made me root for him all the more -- he seems somehow more human up there than a lot of guys. Sad and frustrating that this happens when he seemed to be on a bit of a roll.

Maybe that. Or maybe he just isn't that good and we're looking for a reason why.
