Based on the way the game is scored, this is not necessarily true.Cards, and I'm pretty sure that's the only option. Cause if you choose Rangers, and you win, you still can't catch up to 980, and the game would be over because the Rangers winning ends the postseason. I sense a plot hole.

It also depends on how you value other results, such as coming in second instead of third, or avoiding last place, or finishing above 5,000 points (which is where you started). Or indeed perhaps there are those who prefer last place, which after all is where nice guys finish.
LOL, this sounds like a Q&A after a philosophy lecture...
